OUR PROCESS
STEP 1 – SURFACE CLEANING
Before any new sealer can be applied, the paver surface must be thoroughly cleaned. In some instances, a chemical cleaning agent may be applied to lift stubborn stains. We use the cross-wash method with our top of the line, powerful, flat surface machines. During the cleaning process, most of the joint sand between the pavers will be forced out from between the pavers, along with any dirt, weeds, and plant material. Our cleaning process leaves your pavers and natural stone unbelievably clean!
STEP 2 – SANDING THE JOINTS
Once the paver surface is thoroughly cleaned and the old joint sand has been removed, fresh, clean, new joint sand must be installed between the joints. At this phase of the process, new premium sand is swept over the paver surface to replace what was removed during cleaning. The pavers are then “wet sanded” to push the joint sand into place. Wet sanding is used to force sand in between the pavers. A properly sanded paver project will leave the paver surface clean of sand. Our technicians apply joint sand to the ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute) industry standards. The ICPI calls for joint sand to be between 1/8th and 1/4th inch below the edge of the brick paver.
STEP 3 – SEALER APPLICATION
Once the joint sand is at the proper level, the newly cleaned paver stones can be sealed. Because we use Seal n’ Lock’s waterbased sealer, there is no need to let the surface dry out. The sealer is applied liberally with a min of two flood coats making sure that the new joint sand is thoroughly saturated. The penetrating sealer not only prevents stains, but also hardens and stabilizes the joint sand, keeping your paver system in place. Our commercial grade sealer is environmentally friendly and includes algae/mold inhibitor.
